Basic garden tools you need to maintain your garden

Lawnmowers

We have taken a look at 5 affordable lawn mowers before.  However, there are so many different makes, models with many different features and functions available. Here are a couple of options you can add to the garden tool shed.

Fiskars StaySharp Max Reel Mower is rated as one of the best by the gardening aficionados.  It’s designed with a large sturdy top cover that protects overhanging flowers and shrubs.

Another mower is the American Lawn Mower Deluxe has also been accredited as one of the best.  Again it’s a push mower so it operates on elbow grease alone.

The main problem with push mowers is they don’t work well on tall grass.  So you need to make sure you are keeping your lawn at a certain height.

Garden Shredders

Generally, all garden shredders have a high power motor and come with a silent crushing system. This kind of gardening tool is fantastic for getting rid of small branches, offcuts and makes great compost.

You can get both electric garden shredders and petrol powered shredders.  The electric-powered units can shred tree branches up to about 40 mm 11/2 inch with petrol units doing up to about 80mm 3inch.  Most are designed to be portable and come with catchers.

Just make sure you choose the right size.  Anything much over an 80mm 3inch branch size you will start to get into industrial-sized shredders.

Cultivators

Cultivators were always seen as industrial farming equipment.  They are designed to stir and pulverize the soil, either before planting to aerate the soil and prepare a smooth, loose seedbed or after the crop has begun growing.  Cultivators are designed to disturb the soil in careful patterns, sparing the crop plants but disrupting the weeds.

They have now been made for a typical small yard.  Small tilling equipment, used in small gardens such as household gardens and small commercial gardens, can provide both primary and secondary tillage. As an example, a rotary tiller does both the “ploughing” and the “harrowing”, which prepares a smooth, loose seedbed.

It does not provide the row-wise weed control that cultivator teeth would. For that task, there are single-person-pushable toothed cultivators.

Cultivators are also available with a free border edger. They are perfect to use in cleaning the moss, aerating and in thatching. This garden tool helps extensively in preparing vegetable plots, flowerbeds, etc.,

Leaf sweeper

These gardening tools are extensively used for smaller lawns. They are great for picking up loose leaves and various other rubbish.  It is having an infinite height adjustment with a large collector.  These types of sweepers are generally referred to as lawn sweepers.

Edge Trimmer

This gardening tool goes hand in hand with lawnmowers.  Edge trimmers aids in trimming the hedges and also aids in plant pruning.

Spading fork

This is a wonderful gardening tool used for aerating and transplanting. By using this gardening tool it is possible to perform splitting grasses and perennials. This spading forks work great for spreading manure, mulch, sorting hay, for tiny gardens.

Mattock

Mattock is an important gardening tool for breaking up the clay soils and also working around established trees with the roots. There is no need to have a pick and a hoe and handles in your garden if you are having mattock with you.

Take your time when shopping for basic gardening tools.  There are plenty of places out there like Amazon or Max Warehouse you can pretty much find whatever you want.  Don’t forget basic garden tools are different from landscaping tools.
