Why Every Backyard Needs a Backyard Shed

The whole idea of this site is to encourage you to enjoy living out the back.  This means we want you to get the best fun out of your outdoor area.  One of the many benefits of having a backyard that is maintained, and ready to be used, is you can use some of the space to have a backyard shed.

Which is the perfect place to create either a mancave, a kid’s hideout, or additional outdoor storage for the things that can’t fit into the house, Let’s take a look at some of what you need to consider if you want to have a Backyard shed.

Space in the backyard

If you have a small outdoor area, the last thing you want to do is put a huge shed on it, that takes up every bit of space in your backyard.  So consider the size of the area and the size of the shed that you want to put on it.

What is the ground like?

There is nothing worse than buying a great shed, spending your Saturday erecting it, only to find in 2 months one end has sunk.

So prepare your ground, is it just going to be a dirt base or are you going to put in a cement floor? Do you need to get someone that specializes in laying concrete, to do it for you?

What’s the real purpose of the backyard shed?

This comes to the pre-planning stage what are you going to do with it?  Is it a Mancave, so you want as much room as you can, to fill it with man stuff, it is just storage for garden tools, and maybe some boxes of things that no longer fit in the house.

Are you creating it as another space for the kids to enjoy, you might want to consider what the floor coverings are going, for men it might be fine to have just a bare cement floor, but if you have small kids it might need carpet put over the cement.

What’s the security going to be like?

If you are locking up some valuable items like power tools, or your grandmother’s pearls.  You might want to think about just how secure you make it.  A  standard padlock might not cut it you might want to consider an audible alarm padlock.

Where are you going to position it?

This one is all about landscaping, if you have a very barren backyard you don’t want a big shed sitting in the middle of it.  Position it to one side in a corner… then add landscaping touches around it.

Stick to the basics when thinking about adding a backyard shed to your outdoor living area,  if you plan it right, you might just have a great addition to your backyard.
